wool

Our Shetland sheep live in a natural environment and are never confined in buildings. They are 100% grass fed (hay in winter), and our pastures are not treated with anything. They are sheared in the spring, and we skirt our fleeces and wash them (using Palmolive to help cut the lanolin out) before sending them to a small mill in Indiana where they are naturally processed. No chemicals are used to dissolve vegetable matter (VM) in the fleeces; however, the people at the mill do an excellent job of picking the VM from the fleeces manually. In the rare instance when a fleece has an unusual amount of VM in it, we will note that in the listing, and the price will be lowered accordingly.

Roving for hand spinners is available starting at $2.00 per ounce plus shipping. We currently have white, many shades of gray, black, a taupe color, and a very, very light brown available. We also have one raw fleece (mostly black) available - please e-mail us for more information.

You can email us with details about how much wool you want and pay with a check or credit cards via Paypal. Read on for specific wools available. All are $2.00 per ounce unless otherwise noted.
