This is Snuggles (at right). He is an Olde English Southdown Babydoll sheep, which is one of the oldest sheep breeds known to humankind. Although some consider the Babydoll a dual-purpose sheep (meat and wool), their wool is course in comparison to the Shetlands. Snuggles was actually one of our first two sheep, purchased shortly after we bought a Shetland wether. After living with both of the boys for a few months, we decided we prefered the Shetland, which is why Snuggles is our only Babydoll. Snuggles is actually white, but because of the high lanolin content of the Babydoll's skin, their wool attracts dirt in an unimaginable quantity. Although Snuggles has white wool, the only day he actually looks white is the day he is sheared! We have spun his wool in the past but decided to use it for quilt batting in the future, because it is virtually impossible to get it clean.
